Arranging A Funeral (Original)

When you are ready to proceed with making the funeral arrangements an arrangement meeting will take place, this can be done at our comfortable arrangement offices or in the privacy of your own home. When distance is an issue most funeral arrangements can also be made over the telephone and email.

During this arrangement meeting we will discuss all of the different aspects of arranging the funeral service .

Of course every decision is not usually made at this one time but usually all options are discussed. We will prepare a list of things which will need to be arranged before the funeral service and we will stay in constant contact with you throughout the funeral arrangement process and beyond. Our aim is to make this time as easy as possible.

Before discussing the funeral arrangements with us you may like to consider:

  • Where will the service be held?
  • Will it be a burial or a cremation?
  • Would you have a Minister of Religion or Civil Celebrant conduct the Service?
  • We are able to arrange the Minister or Celebrant, you would then meet with them to discuss the funeral service.
  • Any favourite flowers / music / photos.
  • Is there any special clothing that you would like your loved one dressed in?

As part of our service, Nielsen Funerals will register the death with the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages to apply for the official death certificate on your behalf, this is sent directly to you from Births, Deaths and Marriages usually within five weeks of the funeral service. The death certificate will allow you to settle affairs with banks, solicitors and all other legalities.

Whilst we do not need to sight any birth, marriage or other death certificates we will require the following information:

  • Date and Place of Birth
  • Details of Marriage(s) - including full name of spouse(s), date and place of marriage(s)
  • Children's full names and dates of birth
  • Parents full names and occupations
  • Mother's maiden name

Nielsen Funerals are able to notify Centrelink, Veteran’s Affairs and Medicare on your behalf.

We will also advise you of, and help you apply for, any funeral benefits or bereavement payments you may be entitled to through Centrelink, Veterans' Affairs and the TAC.
